What it is
The Gu Yue Clan is Fang Yuan's clan, and the only society he belongs to in his second life. Its world is small and its hierarchy is total: elders above, youths ranked by Aptitude, and mortals without it at the very bottom.
What its elders say about it
The clearest account of the clan's health comes from its own people during the Aperture Opening Ceremony, and it is not flattering.
Alas, our bloodline grows ever more diluted, and few Rank 4 experts have emerged in recent years to strengthen it.
Chapter 4, paragraph 43
The aptitude of our younger generations keeps declining.
Chapter 4, paragraph 43
Where it came from
Not here. The clan is a transplant.
Several hundred years ago, the Gu Yue clan migrated from Central Continent to Southern Border
Chapter 4, paragraph 7
Who runs it
A Gu Yue Clan Leader and a bench of elders, including Gu Yue Chi Lian and Gu Yue Mo Chen, whose rivalry plays out in public over children's exam results.
Why it matters
The clan is the first thing Fang Yuan has to work within, and he has already watched it live and die once. Everything about it, from the ritual and elders to the ceremony itself, is a machine for deciding which children are worth feeding, and he intends to be one of them while he builds something far larger.
